I built this one-of-a-kind bass as part of the Roberto-Venn 50th Anniversary celebration, and it represents a blend of my approach to tone, feel, and visual identity.
The instrument is constructed primarily from Nicaraguan Rosewood, which I all builders apart of this celebration used. It’s used for the top, fingerboard, head cap, bridge, and pickup covers, creating a cohesive look and tonal warmth. The body is Honduran mahogany, adding depth, balance, and resonance.
I hand-wound the single coil pickups (BC soapbar format) to deliver clarity, punch, and dynamic response. The multi-scale layout (33”–34.5”) improves string tension and overall playability, especially across the lower register.
The roasted maple bolt-on neck is reinforced with carbon fiber rods and a two-way truss rod for long-term stability. I incorporated brass inlays, a brass nut, and a brass string block not just for aesthetics, but to enhance sustain and tonal character. Luminlay side dots provide clear visibility in low-light environments.
Additional features include Hipshot tuners, a custom bridge, and an oil finish that allows the wood to resonate naturally. At 6.8 lbs, it’s lightweight and comfortable without compromising tone.
Controls are straightforward—volume, tone, and blend—giving you a wide range of usable sounds without overcomplication.
This is a personal, commemorative build that reflects my craftsmanship and attention to detail in every aspect.
Will come with hard case and strap lock hardware.
